Aged & fresh

High-quality compost

Our compost, commonly known as mushroom soil, is steam sterilized to eliminate most weed seeds, making it a clean and effective option for improving your soil. This nutrient-rich compost is formulated from a blend of animal manure, mulched hay, and crushed corn cobs, then steam-sterilized to produce a high-fertility product that’s safe and gentle enough for most gardening needs. With excellent water retention and plant nutrient content, mushroom compost is ideal for enriching, conditioning, mulching, and balancing all types of soil.

If you’re looking for bulk mushroom compost near Kempton, Hawk Valley Landscape Materials is your go-to source. We proudly offer both fresh and aged compost options—aged compost is about 6–9 months old, while fresh is straight out of the mushroom house—giving you the flexibility to choose the best fit for your garden or landscape project. Garden soils

Apply compost 1 to 3 inches deep over the entire garden area and incorporate it into the top 4 inches of soil. It is good practice to mulch soil lightly with compost after seedlings grow 1 to 2 inches high to discourage weed growth, retain soil moisture, and protect against soil erosion.

Flower beds

Apply compost to flower beds ½” to 1” deep and dig into the top 4” of soil. Flower beds may be mulched with compost to discourage weed growth, retain soil moisture and protect against soil erosion.

Lawn seeding

For general soil enrichment apply 1/2 to 1 inch of compost over the entire lawn area before seeding the lawn.

Trees

Apply compost under tree starting about 2-3 feet away from the trunk and extending about a foot beyond drip-line at the end of the branches. An annual application should be between 1/2 and 1 inch thick.
